"LA ESMERALDA, 1879": LAS ÚLTIMAS HORAS DEL CAPITÁN PRAT LLEGA A LOS CINES
El Combate Naval de Iquique, a finales del siglo XIX, en el que murió el capitán de fragata Arturo Prat Chacón y su barco fue hundido por una nave peruana, ha inspirado al chileno Elías Llanos Canales un ambicioso proyecto, "La Esmeralda, 1879", que se estrenará dentro de poco más de un mes, protagonizado por Jaime Omeñaca y Fernando Godoy, y en el que se han gastado 4 millones de dólares.
Buena parte del presupuesto se fue en la reconstrucción de los barcos que protagonizaron la batalla, el peruano Huáscar y el chileno Esmeralda. "Hoy, cuando estamos viendo tremendos ejemplos de héroes chilenos después del terremoto, esta película sin duda ayudará a entender de dónde viene toda esa garra", asegura con fervor patriótico Elías Llanos, quien recibió todo el apoyo de las fuerzas armadas nacionales para este proyecto que se ha prolongado durante cerca de un lustro y en el que participaron más de 1.000 personas."Me siento satisfecho y honrado del equipo con el que
trabajé. La gente que ha podido ver parte de la película ha quedado muy sorprendida, porque construimos dos embarcaciones y recreamos el combate, todo con profesionales y técnicos chilenos", ha explicado el cineasta debutante, quien se sintió inspirado tras visitar junto a su hijo el Huáscar, fondeado en Talcahuano. Quienes primero apoyaron una de las cintas más caras de la historia en Chile fueron los dirigentes de la Armada chilena, que aportaron dinero y apoyo técnico para esta historia que relata durante 24 horas el momento previo y el combate naval en el que perdió la vida de forma heroica Prat, considerado desde entonces figura señera del orgullo marino nacional."La Esmer
